That’s why\, every year on 28th September\, the Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS) proudly joins the global community in commemorating World Heart Day—a worldwide initiative led by the World Heart Federation to raise awareness about heart health and promote heart-friendly lifestyles. \nOur Annual Participation \nIn Kenya\, KCS partners with a wide network of stakeholders to coordinate impactful activities across the country. These include: \n\nMinistry of Health (MoH) – National and County levels\nHospitals & healthcare professionals\nPatient associations\nMedical professional bodies (e.g.\, Kenya Medical Association)\n\nKey Activities Include: \n\n⚽ “Healthy Heart Football Tournament” – A fun\, engaging tournament organized in partnership with Kenya Medical Association (KMA) to promote physical activity\n🖥️ Public Awareness Webinars – Conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other key partners\n📢 Media Campaigns – Week-long awareness drives on TV\, radio\, and social media to:\n\nEducate the public on heart disease and stroke prevention\nPromote healthy diets\, regular exercise\, and tobacco control\n\n\n🩺 Free Cardiovascular Screenings & Consultations – Conducted in hospitals and public spaces\n🚶 Community Engagement – Including awareness walks\, health caravans\, and outreach clinics\n\nGet Involved \nWe invite you to join us in making every heartbeat count. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]World Hypertension Day (WHD) is observed every year on May 17th to raise global awareness about hypertension and its health risks. Organized by the World Hypertension League (WHL) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO)\, the day aims to educate the public about the importance of screening\, early detection\, prevention\, and management of high blood pressure. \nIn Kenya\, the Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS) joins the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other partners as a key stakeholder in commemorating this important day through impactful national and county-level activities. \nObjectives of WHD \n\nRaise Awareness: Educate the public about hypertension\, its risk factors\, and how to prevent it.\nConduct Screenings: Offer free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings\, recognizing that diabetes is a major co-morbidity in people with hypertension.\nPromote Healthy Lifestyles: Encourage physical activity\, a balanced diet\, stress management\, and the reduction of alcohol and tobacco use.\nProvide Educational Resources: Distribute free Information\, Education\, and Communication (IEC) materials to empower individuals to take charge of their heart health.\nCelebrate in Unity: Bring people together to emphasize the power of collective action in promoting cardiovascular well-being.\nStrengthen Data for Decision-Making: Analyze screening data collected during May Measurement Month to support evidence-based policy and health system strengthening.\n\nHow the Day is Commemorated \nKCS Participation in the National Commemoration \nThe Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS)\, in partnership with the Ministry of Health\, plays a key role in the national World Hypertension Day event\, promoting public engagement and awareness. \nKey Activities: \n\nHypertension Awareness Walk: A vibrant procession with a marching band to promote physical activity and awareness.\nFree Health Screenings: Onsite blood pressure and blood sugar checks\, with counseling and referrals.\nPublic Education: Distribution of IEC materials with tips on prevention and management.\nCommunity Engagement: Active involvement of healthcare professionals\, volunteers\, and local leaders.\n\nBe Part of the Movement \nJoin us on May 17th to raise awareness\, get screened\, and promote heart health across Kenya. \nKnow your numbers.
