DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]World Hypertension Day (WHD) is observed every year on May 17th to raise global awareness about hypertension and its health risks. Organized by the World Hypertension League (WHL) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO)\, the day aims to educate the public about the importance of screening\, early detection\, prevention\, and management of high blood pressure. \nIn Kenya\, the Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS) joins the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other partners as a key stakeholder in commemorating this important day through impactful national and county-level activities. \nObjectives of WHD \n\nRaise Awareness: Educate the public about hypertension\, its risk factors\, and how to prevent it.\nConduct Screenings: Offer free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings\, recognizing that diabetes is a major co-morbidity in people with hypertension.\nPromote Healthy Lifestyles: Encourage physical activity\, a balanced diet\, stress management\, and the reduction of alcohol and tobacco use.\nProvide Educational Resources: Distribute free Information\, Education\, and Communication (IEC) materials to empower individuals to take charge of their heart health.\nCelebrate in Unity: Bring people together to emphasize the power of collective action in promoting cardiovascular well-being.\nStrengthen Data for Decision-Making: Analyze screening data collected during May Measurement Month to support evidence-based policy and health system strengthening.\n\nHow the Day is Commemorated \nKCS Participation in the National Commemoration \nThe Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS)\, in partnership with the Ministry of Health\, plays a key role in the national World Hypertension Day event\, promoting public engagement and awareness. \nKey Activities: \n\nHypertension Awareness Walk: A vibrant procession with a marching band to promote physical activity and awareness.\nFree Health Screenings: Onsite blood pressure and blood sugar checks\, with counseling and referrals.\nPublic Education: Distribution of IEC materials with tips on prevention and management.\nCommunity Engagement: Active involvement of healthcare professionals\, volunteers\, and local leaders.\n\nBe Part of the Movement \nJoin us on May 17th to raise awareness\, get screened\, and promote heart health across Kenya. \nKnow your numbers. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]About May Measurement Month \nMay Measurement Month (MMM) is a global blood pressure screening awareness campaign initiated by the International Society of Hypertension (ISH). The Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS) joins the global community every May to highlight the importance of measuring your blood pressure (BP) and to raise awareness of the dangers posed by elevated BP and hypertension. \nSince its inception in 2017\, Kenya has actively participated in May Measurement Month (MMM) through coordinated efforts led by the Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS)\, in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MoH) at both national and county levels\, as well as other partners. \nCampaign Objectives \n\nScreen at least 1 million people aged 18 years and above for blood pressure.\nProvide lifestyle and dietary advice to all those screened who have BPs in the high normal (130-139 / 80-89 mmHg) and hypertensive (>140/90mmHg) ranges. \nTo provide advice on further follow-up of raised BP according to local facilities.\nTo use the data on untreated and inadequately treated hypertension to motivate governments to improve local screening facilities and policies\, and thereby reduce the global burden of disease associated with raised BP.\n\nKCS Role in MMM \nKCS coordinates and supports MMM activities nationwide by: \n\nSetting up screening sites in collaboration with public and private health facilities across Kenya.\nDelivering public education through webinars\, community outreach\, and distribution of informative materials.\nRunning media campaigns via TV\, radio\, and digital platforms to increase public awareness and encourage regular BP checks.\n\nHow You Can Participate \n\nGet Screened\nVisit any of our designated free screening sites across Kenya during May.\nKnow Your Numbers\nUnderstand your blood pressure reading and its health implications.\nTake Action\nIf your BP is high\, seek advice from a healthcare provider for lifestyle changes or medical care.\nSpread Awareness\nEncourage your family and friends to check their blood pressure regularly.\nSupport the Cause\n\nVolunteer as a healthcare provider or community ambassador\nPartner with KCS as a sponsor\, facility\, or media outlet\nShare your experience using the hashtags: #MMMKenya | #CheckYourPressure\n\n\n\nInsert gallery or photo slider here]\nShowcasing memorable moments from previous MMM events[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
